GoGo Penguin. They've always been a bit of an E.S.T./Bad Plus ripoff, with their traditional all-acoustic piano/bass/drum format being used in decidedly modern and even rocking ways. But their new album takes all the majestic grandeur of Tortoise at their best, stirs in some complex prog rhythms, and even adds a hint of early Aphex Twin for good measure. It's one of my favorite releases of 2018 so far.

Dark Tranquillity, their Projector album from 1999. They had taken a very interesting turn back then, probably their first truly "sophisticated" record. I like the production a lot, especially the big bass, big kick and snare and the brutal sounding rhythm guitars, esp. right channel.
