Cool baseline in a late-70's pop song- So when I set out to learn it years ago, I found that I needed my five string to pull it off owing to the lower notes below E. But I was rather inexperienced when first tried. So what do you think, was it a drop d tuning on a four string or was it tuned down to 430 or something similar?

Another one from Minus 8 that I like, particular the cool descending bass line in the first few bars- For those who might be curious the Bogart/Bacall dialogue is from The Big Sleep.

Grunge gets the gospel treatment on this mid-90s classic.

Mikkey Dee is my favorite (classic) metal drummer, from his work with King Diamond.

Listen to how he plays with the 16ths with his kick. That snare. Those toms. One of a kind groove, dynamics, power and precision. He's the best.

(Warning: vox in this tune not for the faint of heart, even for many KD fans)

Legendary jazz bassist Charles Mingus, but he's not playing bass on this one. He's on piano and vocals here. The utterly terrifying job of playing bass for Mingus falls to a man named Doug Watkins, a lesser-known bassist who still boasts an impressive résumé, including stints with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Sonny Rollins (that's him on the classic Saxophone Colossus). Unsurprisingly, there are no slouches in this band. It features legendary multi-reed man Rashaan Roland Kirk, tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin, trombonist Jimmy Knepper, and of course Mingus mainstay Dannie Richmond on the drums.
