Yeah, my eyeballs started burning when I saw that. To have that work of art shipped like that. OMG. NO. Unacceptable on every level.

So glad it seems to have survived the trip!

I found this Scurrying Craigslist. What REALLY surprised me was that UPS Let him ship it like this, and accepted insurance for the item. When I picked it up the UPS Lady told me straight up that she would NOT honor any damage claims due to how unacceptable the packaging was. I got Lucky on that one! :-D

That would have been a fun fight if it was damaged. By accepting payment for insurance, they are agreeing to insure it. It would've been an uphill battle, but you would've won. Glad it got there safely.

Wow. Yeah, I'm shocked it was ever allowed to be shipped like that. You'd think the UPS person would say, "hey why don't we go ahead and throw that in a box?"

So glad it made it safe!!

    Hey fortress club!

Just wondering if anyone can help me, what is a good used price for a 98 fortress one? I am in australia and they're fairly rare here so not sure what people generally price them, but I'm trying to get one from abroad for under $1000 if possible. Would $1000AUD/$650 Euro be a good price (incl. shipping) for a used one? Or is that expensive? Not sure what I should expect to pay for one. Thanks :)

I see those here in France between 500 and 800€. Sometimes lower if Rockbass of pretty beat up. Same in Germany where I look also.
There are two dirt cheap on jauce.com right now. Might be closer to you in Japan.

Thanks! I saw a fortress one in Germany that I love, but alas, seller won't ship to me. I really would like to get an older wenge neck fortress. Not that there's anything wrong with the new RB line, but I'm a sucker for wenge necks :)

Thanks for letting me know about that website, I've never seen it before. I'm assuming it's a japanese auction site similar to ebay?

I think I told you a part of this before. Because of Andy Irvine I wanted a Fortress. If possible not a Rockbass (love the quality of those, btw) but a wenge necked one. I found one on the internet at a Dutch shop. It was a brand new and it was hanging in this shop since 1998, so almost 18 years!! The never sold it and I had it at a bargain. A couple of hundreds of euros, included shipping. I didn't play it, I only saw two small pics, but the bass is in and I love it.

Wenge neck and fingerboard, narrow frets, a nice flamed 3-piece maple body, a gorgeous small and vintage feeling neck. I read on the Warwick site they were made all passive too. I'm a passive lover and my Streamer $$ has no battery in it. The push/pull is a kill switch now haha! But a passive Fortress: Not only the RnB, but also the One are made all passive according to the site. When I got it out of the case I tried the controls and no push/pull. I opened the cavity and it's a passive one! Balance, master volume and two tone controls. A tone control for each pickup, so not hi en lo like the CV.

I like the feel and sound a lot. The shop punt new strings on it, all the same brand, but the E sounds strange so I will put some new ones on it soon. And I will compare it to my $$ soon, but that's in our rehearsal space. So more to follow.

Nuff said. You said you wanted pics? Here they are!

    Hey Shelby,
If I could help you get one from the USA to you, I'd be happy to help. I have shipped basses to Australia before. If you take the neck off, and pack well in a Smaller box, shipping is not so outrageous. Feel free to PM Me if you like. And I'm not out to make money, just be a Middleman.

I spent some time in Australia back in 1985, and even had the chance to play The New Weld further South in Albany. It was a Great Visit! Anything I can do to help an Aussie Warwick Lover would be my Pleasure!

Some time in the past I had 2 identical Fortress One 5 strings (95 left, 96 right). The idea was to convert the 95 into fretless but sadly I had to sell it. Still regret it :((

The 96' can be heard at my page (SoundCloud track). The first 3 styles was recorded with it. http://marcelomaia.online

I was surprised to find this note when adding a New Battery!

New Fortress, Straight from the Classifieds! Thanks to Joey for the XLNT Packing job, and for making an International deal as Smooth as can be!

This is a "Customized" 1994 Fortress One Lined Fretless. It was originally a Fretted bass I believe, and has a Custom Inlay at the 12th position. The bass is Light, Growly, Filled with Mwah!, and a Real Joy to play now that I have some TI Jazz Flats on her.
