I can recommend the Pyramid Black Tape Nylon, if you prefer coated. I have them on my upright bass.

Oh, cool! Didn’t think of this. I have Pyramid strings on my 10 string. Excellent they are!

    Hi diddly ho diddly!

I just purchased a ‘99 Thumb NT 5 last night through Reverb, coming from Japan.
No idea what the import tax will be, lol, but it’ll be worth it.

Its got the plastic/graphite nut and the last year of the Wenge/Bubinga neck before switching to Ovangkal, iirc.

I’m quite excited about it. I was listening to a bunch of Mudvayne yesterday in excitement. I love that growl.

Quick question, anyway to verify the neck is Wenge/bubinga and not Ovangkol/bubinga?

I tried the SN Database search but its a ‘99

    Woohoo!

    Thanks kindly.

If its not Wenge, its not Warwick

I almost got an 04 Streamer 2 5’er but it may be Ovangkol, even though the seller says Wenge. I didnt wanna risk it.

Im so glad I made the leap and bought this Thumb.

There's certain Ovangkol necked Warwicks that would make you eat your words, sir. :)

Personally I slightly prefer Ovangkol, but why not enjoy both I say.

YEA i saw some beautiful 2000-2002’s in my search that had a more beautiful body (pommele).

I look forward to trying the full spectrum of Warwick basses.

It's a good addiction to have. Not necessarily good for the bank account though

Feel free to put your new baby in Thumbville, when it arrives. We love pics :)

My lolphin is a 2005 and Ovangkol. I previously owned three Wengé neck lolphins and quite some other Warwicks.

Ovangkol feels much smoother, there is no obvious different tone caused by the wood used in the necks. I do believe a Wengé fingerboard does more to the tone then a Wengé neck does.

So personally I don't care too much aside from feeling Wengé looks aesthetically more pleasing.

The sound of the Streamer $$ wasn’t for me so I’m gonna try another Spector as I received a trade offer for this USA Spector NS-2J with Spalted Maple top, Mahogany back, and stock EMG pickups/Aguilar OBP-3 preamp, which is currently on it’s way to me:
