My first bass was a fretless. I learned playing on this unlined cheap japanese fretless Jazz.
So my fascination for the fretless never really left me, altho I currently only play fretted basses.

Please post the most fab fretless vids and pics here, This will be lovely!

Here's Mike Manring and his AWESOME hyperbass.

Yesh... The usual Warwick fretless suspect. As most people know, JPT has studied microtonal music. This brought the following video to mind.

"Kurdish bass player Abdullah Shakar playing hijaz maqam (modal micro-tones)"

So which current fretless bass would you love to try?

    Here's my bucket list:
    • Marleaux Diva
    • Le Fay Remington Steele
    • Zon Hyperbass
All are without any doubt awesome instruments.

A Greek player named Yotis Kiourtsoglou. He plays Odyssey basses.

I got this fretless thumb and it’s a joy to play. It’s an 87, and has these wild markers for playing in Just-Intonation. I don’t really use them or know what they’re all for but the bass was a steal.

    Did someone say fretless?

Pardon if you've seen these before-

Two players and the songs that inspired me to play fretless -

    Guy Pratt with Icehouse-

Same song live but with different player with a lined fretless Steinberger XL2

Dan K. Brown of The Fixx with his Wal MK II five string- it was in search of his dark tone that led me to the 'Wick

I also like the fretless playing in the soundtrack of Besson's La Femme Nikita, particularly in the intro sequence

The only thing I hate about this clip is the dialog is English dubbed instead of the original French-- but what can you do? I mainly posted it for the music anyway-

Anything by Ray Ramirez ... assuming that "current" still
applies. He's in Humacau PR and there ain't much left of
    PR these days :-(

    Here's his stuff:

All of my other fascinations are decidedly NOT "current",
like the giant Ampeg AEB [never even breathed on one].
And anything by Azola, but especially his final prototype.

Pino Palladino on fretless as featured on Townshend's Give Blood- unfortunately there isn't a live version with him playing-

Always loved the way Carles played with Paco.
